Okowa’s trump card
BEFORE the coming of the government of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State had its fair share of crisis. Delta can be referred to as a mini Nigeria because of its divergent culture and ethnic groups. There were youth restiveness, militancy and ethnic crisis. On assumption of office, Governor Okowa inaugurated the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council. The intervention of the Council in sensitive communal and related matters and the systematic and pragmatic implementation of government’s programmes which has given the people a sense of belonging has brought militancy to a halt.
TRIBUTE: Farewell, Prof Deji Femi-Pearse, OFR
Professor Ayodeji (Deji) Femi-Pearse was born in Lagos on September 18,1932. He was the first child of Dr Jamieson Townsend Femi-Pearse and Mrs Elsie Omolara Femi-Pearse (nee Savage); and the first grandson of Canon James Pearse and Mrs Caroline Olayinka Pearse (nee Cole) of the St. Jude’s Church Ebute-Metta fame.
Much ado about a Hausa community endorsement
SOME cynics and sceptics, mainly of an embattled faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State, who have been going about saying that the gale of endorsements on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s second term bid by virtually everybody and every group in the state will not translate to his victory at the poll are at it again. This time around, in their usual delusion and desperation, they have commissioned some social media hack writers to criticise and condemn the second term endorsement of the governor by members of the Hausa community in the state. It would be recalled that recently members of the Hausa community were in Government House, Enugu and in appreciation of Ugwuanyi’s sterling performance endorsed him for second term in office.
