The early rains of year 2012 caught many Lagosians unawares, especially with regards to the havoc that was wreaked through massive flooding and destruction of life and property. It was a development that prompted the Lagos State government to embark on emergency flooding prevention/reduction measures. It has also followed this up with routine maintenance of existing drainage channels and construction of new ones, as well as initiating other measures and projects to deal with the menace.

The unusual security checks in some parts of the Plateau State capital last Sunday gave cause for worry, but not many thought much of it. The checking, especially along Dogon Karfe Road resulted in a traffic jam as motorists were made to alight and open the booths of their cars for checking.

These vigilant neighbours were said to have risen to the occasion in foiling a plan by a rival faction within the church to attack the place of worship with bombs and explosives, a development that could have ended in tragic loss of lives and large scale destruction of property.
