The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has challenged government and other stakeholders to step up efforts at making the world of work safer and promoting the ideals and objectives of the Occupational Safety and Health framework

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has blamed the failed and deplorable condition of Benin/Warri highway for the October 1 petrol tanker fatal accident that claimed five lives among other valuable assets.

The meeting between the Federal Government and Organised Labour, yesterday ended in deadlock as leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and their Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, counterparts, rejected the government’s offers.

“Should the Minister fail to address these issues within two weeks, he should preoccupy himself with recruiting National Security Adviser, NSA, officials to run the Sector.”

“ONE of the ad hoc measures adopted  by government to cushion the effects of petrol subsidy removal is the reduction of work days from five days a week to three”

Pronouncements by the government in its 100 days have worsened the woes and socioeconomic conditions of workers.

“After extensive deliberations, the NEC-in-Session resolved that the Federal Government must intensify discussions with the Labour unions on palliatives and alternatives as earlier promised”

Increasingly, workers are being made by employers to bear the brunt of the socio-economic difficulties and the negative effects of government’s policies.
