Rainy season of collapsed buildings, as rickety houses dot the landscape

As relatives of those who died in the buildings which collapsed in Lagos last week, mourn the demise of their loved ones, there are fears that more rickety houses in the “Centre of Excellence” would take their turn sooner or later. This is because the Lagos landscape, especially the high density squalid neighbourhoods are littered with “coffins” which people live in as houses.

FG to recruits 17,000 youths for road maintenance

As part of its efforts to reduce joblessness in the country, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, said it would employ the services of 17,000 youths under the Subsidy Re-Investment Empowerment Programme, SURE-P who will ensure the continuous maintenance of Federal roads across the country.

Experts seek transparent procurement system to stem high cost of construction

In a bid to ensure transparency in the procurement of government-owned projects, the Federal Government signed the Public Procurement Act into law in 2007. The Act established the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP as the regulatory authority responsible for the monitoring and oversight of public procurement, harmonizing the existing government policies and practices by regulating, setting standards and developing the legal framework and professional capacity for public procurement in Nigeria.
