Group writes Okorocha on Ekemegbu Oha-Afor Uzoagba Road

By Jude Njoku

Worried by the stoppage of work on the construction of the Ekemegbu Oha -Afor Uzoagba road which links Uratta in the Owerri North Local Government Area and Uzoagba in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, a  socio-cultural group, Messrs  Klobb X has appealed to the State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to compel the contractor to return to site or  re-award the contract to a more competent contractor.

In a strongly worded letter to the Governor dated April 23, 2013,  the group through its Chancellor, Mr. Nnamdi Ibe and Scribe, Chief George Idimogu,  lamented that one year after the award of the contract for the construction of the road, no significant work has been done by the contractor. “The contractor has only bulldozed (cleared) the site even when an appreciable sum of money has been released to him and absconded.

“The community expected that work should be nearing completion on that road granted the strategic importance of the road not only to the community but also to the entire Imo State and also taking into consideration the money so far released. Sadly, the road has been abandoned by the contractor. The rains are here with us, and the community is once again about to be cut off from the entire state as a result of lack of access road,” the group alleged.

“The dreams of Uzoagba people in having an access road appear to be a mirage.  From all intents and purposes, it appears to us that the contractor is bent on frustrating the efforts of your government to achieve and post results.  We have continued to appeal to the entire community especially the youths not to take laws into their hands as they see the contractor as being a cog in the wheel of the development of Uzoagba.  We however do not know to what extent we shall continue to pacify tension.
