The nation’s recession was caused by the political class but while the rest of us are admonished to tighten our belts, the scarce resources we have, are still being wasted on political luxuries although many states have not paid workers’ salaries for months

The recent dismissal by the Nigerian Police of its officers attached to the Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike is a huge food for thought. Police Spokesman, Dan Awunah, says the officers were dismissed after having been found guilty of breaching the police conduct during the last parliamentary election in Rivers State. Awunah also said the misconduct occurred despite warnings from Ibrahim Idris the Inspector General of police (IGP).

Corruption by officers who misappropriate public funds is condemnable but more to be deprecated is a government that deliberately appoints malleable persons into strategic positions to serve as conduit pipes to raise revenue for the next set of elections

The recent release from a British prison of a former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori has since it happened last month attracted comments from across the nation. While many especially Deltans were happy about the development, analysts from other parts of Nigeria were virtually disgusted over what they saw as a sheepish people turning an ex-convict into their hero

It is only fair that Nigerians who claimed to have elected President Buhari as a man that can rid the nation of corruption should not also become hyper-critical about a result-oriented approach to the hydra-headed monster
