NLC, TUC others distance themselves from strike in Imo

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has opposed the demand by Public and Political office holders in the country for an upward review of their remuneration package by the Federal Government.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday began a two-day nationwide protest against failure of the Federal Government to resolve the strike embarked upon by unions in the nation’s university system, warning the government not to toy with another people’s uprising comparable to the  2020 #EndSARS protest. The strike has lasted five months so far.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, will today meet with leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and others to put finishing touches to the planned solidarity rally the congress is organising in support of the ongoing strike by the university lecturers.

The Federal Government yesterday explained that the reason for the extension of complete removal of fuel subsidy was as a result of President Mohammadu Buhari’s insistence that all the necessary structures must be put in place to cushion the impact of the removal on the citizens.
