State chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP in Abia State, Chief Ogaranya Ifemeje, has debunked reports that the state chapter of the party has collapsed into the ruling Labour Party in the state.

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party, LP, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of singling it out for punishment for the role it played in the defence of the party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi and the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, during the 2023 general elections.

It explained that LP neither conducted any primaries to nominate candidates nor submitted any names to ANSIEC.

He said Abure, since his assumption of office as national chairman following the sudden death of the party’s national chairman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, in 2000, had led the party without election.
