THE current debate following the Public Hearing on the proposed Amendment to the NLNG Act, to enable it begin to pay three percent of its total annual revenue to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), makes interesting reading.

Sex is cherished because of the pleasure people derive from it. It doesn’t matter whether you are a man or a woman. Sex is designed by nature to be enjoyed, especially when you are married. Besides, it is the only natural way of procreation. Meanwhile, there are hindrances to healthy sexual life that tend to make the lives of the victim miserable. One of such hindrances is erectile dysfunction suffered by men. A victim will normally not have penile erection to have sex. Or, to put it mildly, the victim may suffer what many people refer to as premature ejaculation.

For a fact, the centrality of the traditional institutions, with the Obaship at the apex, is of profound importance in Yorubaland, not just in Ife. The Yorubas revere the institutions and the mixture of tradition as well as democratic checks and balances.

You know what they say about democracy being ‘a government of the people, by the people and for the people’? Where the electorates are given the ultimate choice to choose who govern over the affairs of the state; where the divine gift of freewill is laid bare without coercion or duress; where people are the architect of their fates; where the destiny of a nation’s future rest on the shoulders of the polity’s conviction in the personality, forthrightness and trust in the candidacy of an individual or the vision of a political party?

SOME of our leaders, especially the Governors, fit aptly into these three kinds of persons in this proverb. Some of them are like goats, and must not be approached from the front, because they will simply beat a u-turn and speed off.
