During the recently concluded gubernatorial exercise in Edo State, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, went about electioneering in what can only be described as the most execrable manner imaginable. It was palpably evident that they had little, if any, regard for Godwin Obaseki, the newly inaugurated Governor of Edo State. I had, at the time, found this conceitedness to be obviously typical and rather annoying indeed. I had wondered why PDP leaders were disrespecting a man who undisputedly stood head and shoulders above them intellectually.

compel Speaker Dogara and other accused Principal Officers to step down for prosecution and make the House apologise to Nigerians for the individual and systemic fraud and corruption and gross abuse of office that has become the hallmark of the House over the years.

I shall begin on a morbid note. One of the horror stories that emerged from the Daesh (Isis) controlled parts of Iraq was the gruesome tale of the mother who had a daughter affected by wanderlust, even in that endangered zone. One day, when she looked for her to attend to some home chores, she found that she had gone missing yet again. As she searched, she shouted in frustration: ”As Allah is my witness, I’ll kill that girl when I catch up with her”. A neighbor overheard and reported her to the Hisbah. The mother was summoned by the mullahs who ordered her to put the child to death, since she had sworn by Allah.

Shock and disbelief could be the appropriate words to describe the outcome of the recently declared outcome of the United States of America election results. Shock and disbelief because the man whom God has allowed to win the Presidential election seems like a dark horse to the rest of the world in general and some sections of the American Electorate in particular.
