THE Nigerian Punch at page 12, Thursday May 9, carried a report that the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, has asked Nigerians not to blame the violence in the North on Muslims.

TAKING into consideration the ephemeralness of power as a phenomenom, the vintage Shakespearian Question then arises: “To be or not to be- that is the question.” Whether to remove the tiresome toga of “Senator” and leave the name simply as “President David Mark.” Wow!

MY reaction to the recent write-up in one of the Social Media “9ja Community” written by one Femi Falana, not my respected learned friend, hardworking, courageous and humanitarian SAN, was to ignore the write-up by reasons of the many inexactitudes in its constitutional citation and wrong inferences therefrom.

I JUST read Mr. Remi Adekoya’s piece in the Guardian of the U.K. entitled ‘Goodluck Jonathan’s report card for Nigeria? Must try harder’ in which he praised President Jonathan for a booming economy but came down hard on him for failing to help Nigeria’s poor.

Proliferation of small arms and light weapons is increasingly and dangerously becoming a transnational organized crime in Nigeria with Boko Haram’s insurgency, re-emerging Niger Delta crisis and escalating kidnapping, communal crises and armed robbery in the South East providing impetus for arms trafficking. Some border towns, particularly in the North Eastern flank, serve as a hub for trafficking of arms as well as stolen goods, drugs and hostages by criminals, terrorists and their collaborators. The recent kidnap of a French family at a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon is an example. Similarly, many arms and ammunition of various types, sizes and calibre have been intercepted and confiscated by security agencies. The recurrent detection and recovery of cache of arms, ammunition and Improvised Explosive Device Materials by the Joint Task Force, JTF, further buttresses the point. Similarly, the occasional recovery of stolen goods and hard drugs from criminals and terrorists’ camps or hideouts is an indication that the illicit trade has been on the rise in recent times.

My first encounter with Adetokunbo was in the 1960s through my elder brother when they both attended CMS Grammar School. The two friends later attended an interview at Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti when my late father drove them to the Bus station. In Ado they experienced traditional Ekiti hospitality from my parents’ close friends, the Osekitas.

After being in limbo for nearly two years, Senator Christopher Iyiola Omisore was recently resurrected. In an interview he granted, the politician mounted his serial denial that he knew nothing about the assassination of Uncle Bola Ige. Chief Bola Ige a Federal Attorney General and Minister of Justice under President Olusegun Obasanjo was gruesomely murdered at his Ibadan residence on December 23, 2001. We shall come back to that later.
