I read with derision the monumentally false claim by one Chijioke Chukwu, an aspirant to the Abia State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, wherein he said that the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, “has done nothing in Abia State”.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo as Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs and Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) in March, is perhaps the most cheering news this year for the people of Niger Delta.

I PITY those after Delta State Governor, Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa’s job. Their rather conceited boast in their factually baseless ability to render him a one-term Governor, aside, Okowa on his part, seems ever capable of making them look  puny with neither bluster nor even noise from his end.

EFCC must conduct thorough investigation before embarking on arrests. Not everyone in a night club is a Yahoo boy. So it is important to ascertain the identity of those involved before arrest. If they are able to ascertain that criminal activities take place in any night club, they have a right to raid the night club.

The Nigerian government recently reviewed the excise duty rate and structure applicable to tobacco products and alcoholic beverages. Specifically, government approved an additional N1 specific tax on each stick of cigarette (N20 per pack), which would increase to N2 per stick in 2019 (N40 per pack) and eventually N2.90 per stick in 2020 (N58 per pack) while maintaining the current 20% ad valorem rate on unit cost of production.
