The Comptroller-General (CG) Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col.  Hameed  Ibrahim  Ali (rtd) is   a public figure, whose name  does not reverberate  like his peers in such sensitive  leadership positions.   Ordinarily, a Customs CG   is a powerful personality. His office is strategic to government because of its revenue generation strength and protection of Nigerians from prohibited goods.

Again, the Vice President, the so-called Pastor Yemi Osinbajo, has decided to spout his oft repeated falsehood that the Jonathan administration did not plan for Nigeria’s future and that the current economic travails facing Nigeria under the failed Muhammadu Buhari administration, were caused by the Goodluck Jonathan government.

Democracy on paper is not enough. Free, fair, and violence-free elections are crucial for the protection and deepening of representative democracy in any country. It is shameful and inhuman when political candidates use their own citizens as pawn to pave the way for their political ambitions. Unfortunately, electoral violence has been a continuous problem in Nigerian politics since she became a federation in 1963. Usually, the violence and killings occur either before the election (electoral campaign) or after the election.

It is undisputable that one of the greatest achievements of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration in Enugu State that must not be taken for granted is the enduring peace in the Coal City State.
