Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, through his recent assistance to victims of fire outbreaks in the state, to enable them overcome their challenges, has indeed reaffirmed his long-held belief that the greatest objective of government is to alleviate the suffering of the people.

“The people behind and below cannot see as far as the Leaders. Their feet hurt, the children are crying and the old ones are sick. But they must march; they are compelled to go; they cannot choose the way themselves.

Everyone is aware of the ongoing case between former Governor Segun Oni and present Governor Kayode Fayemi. Segun Oni is challenging Fayemi’s eligibility to contest the APC Primary election of May 2018 on the ground that Fayemi did not resign his position as a Minister before the Primary contrary to the guidelines of the party as contained in the 2014 Guidelines for the Nomination of Candidates for Public Office. The Federal High Court sitting in Ekiti ruled against Oni on the basis that Dr. Fayemi, as a Minister appointed by and serving at the pleasure of the President, is not a public officer/servant and is therefore not covered by the provision of the Guidelines. The matter has gone to the Appeal Court and it is due for mention soon.

DUE to the diverse violent conflicts confronting Nigeria, tension is already heightened as we head towards the 2019 general elections.
