IN reaction to my article on “Remedying the power sector for service delivery”, an interesting and well thought-out piece by Carl Umegboro, published in several national dailies exposed the realisation of a comical truth: that “Up NEPA” is among the first few words mastered by infants in Nigeria. A phrase unanimously chorused even by adults, whenever there is flash of power, especially after long hours of no supply.

IRRESPECTIVE of the outcome from our courts, Muhammadu Buhari is, for now, the President and President-elect of Nigeria and will be our ruler until the month of May 2023. For those who have been following judicial proceedings of presidential elections, no election has been overturned at the Supreme Court level, no matter how flawed.

Many people have now come to accept democracy, with all its limitations and ambiguities, as the best form of government for nations. (I have my reservations, but I leave them for another occasion.) Those, especially, who have experienced different forms of dictatorship or tyranny are very excited whenever they talk of democracy.

I know Femi Kusa. He is a friend and a classmate. I knew of him from his Daily Times days. Then we met at the University of Nigeria shortly after the end of Nigerian Civil war. I have read his reflections on Ndigbo and the politics of Lagos. And have followed with considerable curiosity the Galestorm his article set off and some of the responses to his rebuke of Ndigbo.

THE Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, GCON, declared in Ilorin recently that the Federal Government will float People’s Money bank in the country this year.
