THOUGH he was not a career politician at the time fortune brought him forward to lead Anambra State, but he has since proved that he is as good as any politician elsewhere in Nigeria. His position on the last presidential election has proved him a man of deep political insight contrary to what many are willing to concede. Governor Willie Obiano may not be your first choice of a politician if the decision is put to vote. He cuts straight and does not believe in calling a spade by another name.

THERE is a wise saying that“cleanliness is next to godliness. Indeed, it is true that a sound body makes a sound mind. It is simply a matter of hygiene. That fact seems to be lost  to  those  who  govern Lagos  State presently where  refuse  dumping on the roads  and streets have become rampant and constitute a serious health hazards to Lagosians. Household waste have seized the streets of Lagos, taking the state back to the 1999/2000 era when the metropolis was perhaps the headquarters of dirt in the world. No part of the state is spared, from Iyana Ipaja to Ikoyi, Ikeja to Surulere, Lagos has become one huge refuse dump site, ugly, smelling and nauseating.  Yet, a clean environment is essential for human health and well-being.

Before last week’s presidential election, pundits had speculated that Akwa Ibom state would be a fierce battle ground for the two frontline political parties, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC. This expectation was largely because, former Senate Minority Leader,   Godswill Akpabio had created the impression after he decamped to the ruling party, that Akwa Ibom people were under his magical spell.

One of the biggest shocks for Nigerians during the 2019 presidential election is that President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC was defeated in Oyo state by PDP’s Atiku Abubakar.

LETTER-writing has a history that goes back thousands of years. For instance, a few surviving letters suggest it was common practice to write letters to the dead in ancient Egypt. Some of these letters were written on bowls found in Egyptian tombs. The letters often asked for help from the departed with some problem the writers were having. In the Holy Bible, there are series of letters written by Apostle Paul which is famously referred to as epistles. Letter could be overtly arresting. It often surprises and commands the attention of the reader. It connects readers to the past, conjuring images of lovers separated by continents, gas lanterns and adventure. To read, one must sit down and pay attention for a few moments, eschewing the technological world for this corner of the archaic. This is a particularly lovely gesture for a significant other, where a handwritten letter, perhaps, means the most. Write to the one you love, and they’ll not only be arrested by your words, but will feel deeply cared for, and pulled into a world of fantastical romance.
