THE Nigerian conundrum will find a defining moment on May 29, 2023, the date an elected president will be sworn in to replace President Muhammadu Buhari. That president will be of Igbo descent. That will be Nigeria’s date with destiny; a date to correct the apparent injustice to the Igbo. Even with all our acknowledged defects as a nation, Nigeria has the hoary tendency of setting its peculiar sense of fairness, equity and justice that has unfortunately come to be generally accepted as sometimes evasive. Although children are human beings, human rights are insufficient protection for the array of child-specific vulnerabilities. Until a person is able to fully fend for himself, he may be marginalised by society.
Celebrating the Nigerian child
A CHILD is a young person below the age of puberty who has not yet reached adulthood or one below the legal age of majority. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child defines child as “a human being below the age of 18 years unless under the law applicable to the child, majority is attained earlier”.
Okowa: Four Years After
In two days, it would be four years since the era of Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa dawned on Delta State. And, let’s say it here the way it is: Okowa has given a good account of himself as the Governor of Delta State in the last four years.
