Despite spending their productive years for the common good, the nation’s senior citizens have continued to wallow in penury.

Barely three days after our last publication on the issue of the failed housing project and the scam that attended it, thousands of federal civil servants besieged the Abuja head office of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, demanding refunds of their deposits.

The National Pension Commission, PenCom, has disclosed that no fewer than 111,210 employees who retired on the Contributory Pension Scheme, CPS, since 2007, have received payouts of over N268 billion.

Workers of Eko Distribution Company, EKED, have condemned management deduction of four pension arrears from their salaries at once leaving them little or nothing to take care of their families obligations among others.

No fewer than 6.2 million workers or contributors have been registered into the Contributory Pension Scheme, CPS, since inception, the National Pension Commission, PenCom, has announced.

The decision of the Senate to delist the national minimum wage from the Exclusive List is the greatest disservice done to Nigerian workers.

It is not true because they are not direct employees of the government. They are employees of Edo Line. It is like Bendel Breweries . They have to work for the money and pay themselves. They have a different condition of service from the civil service.

THE decision of the Senate to de-list the National Minimum Wage from the exclusive list may put Nigeria in the special mention of the International Labour Organization, ILO, once again. Beyond that it means that the Nigerian worker would become more vulnerable to exploitation by employers.
