The Ofuobu family of Ode-Itsekiri Town in the Warri Kingdom of Delta State recently lost their matriarch who died at the ripe age of 82. She lived a fruitful and illustrious life, leaving behind six children, many grand children and great-grand children. A successful trader, all her children are university graduates who equally turned out to be successful in their various professions. Her immediate and distant family members are proud of her because hers was a life worth celebrating. (Ofuobu is not the real name of the family. As a condition for granting this interview, the first son demanded that the family name not be mentioned. And on the request of this reporter, he came up with the fictitious name of Ofuobu, which literally means keep it secret in Itsekiri.)

ENUGU—OVER 2000 primary school teachers who have retired in Enugu State in the last 13 years are yet to be paid their gratuities. The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Enugu State chapter which made this known in Enugu, also expressed displeasure over the failure of the state government to settle deceased teachers’ entitlements over the years.

ENUGU—MISTER Linus Okeke is a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP. An interesting drama played out in Lagos recently, after some criminals who were with two baboons waylaid a man as he was coming out from the bank at Ogba area of the state. The unsuspecting victim who withdrew the sum of N230,000 from the bank was shocked when he stepped out only to see some roughly dressed young men with two giant-sized baboons starring at him menacingly. Without blinking an eyelid, the man took to his heels, abandoning his bag of money.

“During the existence of the airline in those days, we were told that pension was for life, when you finish serving and you reach a pensionable level, you take your pension for life, but suddenly when they liquidated the airline, they said they commuted the pension to five years. I retired in year 2000 and today is year 2015, maybe they thought that I would die and today, I have not died.
