When Dr Emeka Onuorah was persuaded into dropping his agitation shortly after the 2011 general elections even when he was going to throw some punches, little did he know that providence was preparing him for a bigger position. He was to represent Idemili Federal Constituency at the National Assembly then. Today, he has been chosen to mount the throne of his forefathers as the monarch of Oraukwu.

At the University of Benin where he was popularly known as TKO, after his initials, Professor Thomas Kehinde Obidairo was one of the least expected to engage in a brawl or even post a Technical Knock Out on anyone. However, what he lacked in physical aggressiveness, he more than made up for in his academic calling, pioneering academic departments and ventures in the Universities of Lagos, Benin, the Lagos State University and the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN.

OMON N’OBA Ne Edo, Uku Akpolokpolor, Oba Erediauwa has joined his ancestors. He was the 38th Oba of Benin Kingdom. A terse announcement yesterday in Benin by the Iyase of Benin Kingdom (the Traditional Prime Minister), Chief Sam Igbe who spoke in Bini dialect said, “OSORHUE BUNRUN; Oba Erediauwa of Benin Kingdom, the Prince of Peace, Ebo, Ayemwirhe, Emimi Mini Mini, has re-united with his ancestors. May he find perfect peace with God.”

A 69 year old herbalist, Chief Simon Odo, who married an 18 year old girl, Chidinma, as his 57th wife last November has said that he would not marry again, having had a fair of women in his life. Chidinma was married from Okutu, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Ibadan from its early history, had always been circumstantial and cosmopolitan. It is undisputable, that Lagelu, the Yoruba Warlord and Generalissimo was its founder around 1829. Most people of the coastal areas of the Niger Delta Region hardly prepare a meal without periwinkles, the delicious species of small edible sea snails. Periwinkles are harvested from the seabed and are such a veritable source of income. Expectedly, these molluscs of various species enjoy immense acceptance among the Nembe people of Nembe Local Government Area and the ancient town of Twon Brass and Okpoama in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

UNTIL last week, the Eze Ndigbo of Akure, Gregory Iloehike was a man about town. He used to go about in Akure, the Ondo state capital with all the paraphernalia of a traditional ruler and served as the voice of the Igbo in the metropolis. But his over bloated ego of many years was deflated when he reportedly “ disrespected the town’s monarch’’ by uttering uncomplimentary remarks to the Deji of Akureland, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, who invited him to the palace in Akure to find a lasting solution to a leadership tussle in a popular market in the ancient town.

It is no longer news that there is a growing presence of Igbos in the South West. Year after year, South Easterners flock into the South West to seek greener pastures. Arguably, Lagos State due to its coastal proximity, has the highest number of Igbos in the region.

IT has been a case of accusations and counter-accusations being the fallout of the communal crisis rocking the people of Eluama community, Lokpaukwu Umuchieze automonous community in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State. At the centre of the crisis, which has so far split the community into two factions, are the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Moses Okwale and his younger brother, Dr. Borke Okwale and others loyal to them on one side. On the opposing side is the other faction comprising the newly elected EDU executive, teaming up with those who identified themselves as concerned citizens of Eluama who claimed to have the support of about 90 percent of the entire populace.
