On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, paramilitary squads, notably the neo-Janjaweed Rapid Support Forces, RSF, trying to quell protests that continued even after the ousting of President Omar Al Bashir’s 30-year regime, opened fire directly on the protesters.

Following the expiration of the eighth National Assembly consisting of the Senate led by Dr Bukola Saraki and the House of Representatives headed by Hon. Yakubu Dogara, a momentous era of feisty Legislative – Executive relationship came to an end on Thursday, June 6, 2019, as President Muhammadu Buhari formally dissolved it in line with constitutional provisions.

RECENTLY, the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD, disclosed that it discovered over 4,000 ghost pensioners among the 20,000 police pensioners it inherited. According to PTAD, the ghost pensioners were discovered during the ongoing pensioners’ verification and biometric data capturing exercise in Benin, Edo State.

ONE of the worrisome fallouts of the war against the Boko Haram Islamic terror in the North East is the unhealthy relationship between our armed forces and the myriads of non-governmental organisations, NGOs, involved in humanitarian activities in the sector.

These show a negative start to the 2019 economic and financial year. The second quarter is not looking better on some of the indicators. But we hope that some corrective measures should be taken to address the weak lines.
