MALLAM Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria so likes the sound of his voice that keeping quiet is never an option. He must be heard, no matter the subject, no matter the forum and he seems to have formed the habit of delivering addresses at various occasions.

THE controversy that has raged in the past few months about Abia State expelling non-indigenes from its civil service has been going the way of all Nigerian debates — aspersions, name calling, threats and more noise which when expended leaves the matter unaddressed.

For years, motorists sweated to get in and out of the nation’s foremost ports at Tin Can Island and the Apapa Quays. The express road, constructed to superb quality 35 years ago, outlived its usefulness more than a decade ago. The drainage was silted. Potholes had developed at many junctions and for years, the authorities neglected them.

OUR laws, already famous for being observed through breaches, are in further danger of a final eclipse from the highest quarters. The latest trend is the negotiation of laws by parties that feel the laws do not favour them. It is as if the Constitution and our laws are for convenience.

EVERYBODY needs fuel. Nobody needs fuel subsidy as governments have shown over the years. Fuel subsidy is a convoluted conspiracy that is at best a racket raised to a national pantheon because each government has discovered the bogey called subsidy serves its interests and myriad interests that cannot pass any scrutiny.
