Uhuegu community seeks intervention over dispute affecting government sanitation project

By Dennis Agbo

ENUGU — The Chairman of the Community Project Management Committee (CPMC), Mr. Elias Emeka of Uhuegu in Ugwuleshi Autonomous Community, has appealed to the Enugu State Government to intervene in a dispute affecting the EN-G CARES/CSDA WASH VIP Toilet Project at Orie Awgu Market in Awgu Local Government Area.

The sanitation facility, being executed under the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) WASH Programme, is intended to improve hygiene and public health at the market.

Speaking on the development, Emeka said work on the project has been disrupted by a disagreement over the project site, despite efforts by the Awgu Local Government Council and other stakeholders to resolve the matter.

According to him, the Awgu Local Government Council had allocated the project site after resolving issues relating to the land. He said the market land was handed over to the council more than 30 years ago by the four communities of Uhuegu, Olocha, Amokwe and Olikwu.

Emeka said the continued dispute has delayed the completion of the project, which he described as a public facility designed to serve traders, residents and visitors to Orie Awgu Market.

He called on the Enugu State Government, the Awgu Local Government Council and relevant authorities to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the issues surrounding the project and ensure its completion.

Emeka also appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to intervene, stressing the importance of protecting public infrastructure and ensuring that development projects meant for the benefit of local communities are delivered without further delays.

He urged all stakeholders to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence in the interest of the communities and the successful completion of the sanitation project.
