Sesq Blvck: Lagos artist rebrands to own his identity, sound

By Emmanuel Okogba

Lagos-based Afrobeats artist formerly known as Lil Jhay has officially rebranded to Sesq Blvck, a move aimed at resolving long-standing issues with name visibility on major streaming platforms.

The new name, which combines “Sesq” (derived from his Tiv birth name Sesugh) and “Blvck” (a direct reference to his complexion), is entirely unique and easily searchable across Spotify, Apple Music, and other digital service providers.

Speaking on the rebrand, the artist said: “Sesugh is who I was born. Blvck is what they see. Sesq Blvck is what I built.”

The rebrand comes with a complete creative overhaul, including a new visual identity inspired by his Tiv heritage and Lagos upbringing, fresh photo shoots, and a content strategy focused on authentic storytelling. His street-smart, aspirational sound remains intact.

Sesq Blvck is set to release his debut single under the new name in the coming weeks, accompanied by a music video and a targeted promotional campaign across Nigerian radio, digital platforms, and Afrobeats audiences in the UK, US, and the diaspora.

Born Sesugh in Benue State, the artist has always been driven by a clear vision of success in music, acting, and performance. Despite initial parental concerns about prioritizing academics over content creation, he stayed committed to his passion.

With a growing catalogue of unreleased Afrobeats tracks and a strong foundation built through genuine relationships in the industry, Sesq Blvck is now positioned to make a stronger impact in Nigeria’s competitive music scene.

The rebrand marks the end of a frustrating chapter where his music was difficult to find due to similar-sounding artist names, and the beginning of a clearer, more intentional career journey.
