ABUJA — The Professionals for Good Governance and Social Justice (PGGSJ) has congratulated former Anambra State governor Peter Obi on emerging as the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 presidential election.

The group said Obi’s emergence followed a period of political uncertainty during which questions were raised about his ability to secure a platform for the election.

In a statement signed by its Convener, Dr Ben Chukwu, the organisation also congratulated Obi’s running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, following their emergence as the NDC presidential ticket.

According to the group, Obi’s path to the party’s nomination was marked by political tensions, internal party disputes, shifting alliances and opposition that, in its view, cast doubt on whether he would eventually secure a place on the ballot.

“The journey to leadership is often defined not by the ease of the road but by the challenges overcome along the way,” the group said while congratulating Obi on securing the NDC ticket.

The organisation said many Nigerians had questioned whether Obi would ultimately secure a platform from which to contest the election, but noted that he consistently maintained that he would remain in the race.

“To many observers, the prospect of Peter Obi appearing on the 2027 ballot at times seemed increasingly uncertain. Political tensions, internal party crises, shifting alliances, and sustained opposition created an atmosphere in which many Nigerians began to doubt whether he would ultimately secure a platform from which to contest,” the statement said.

The group said Obi remained committed to his presidential ambition despite the challenges it identified.

It further stated that Obi continued to engage the public on issues including governance, transparency, security, economic development and national unity.

According to the organisation, Obi’s political experience reflects the role of persistence in political leadership.

Congratulating both Obi and Kwankwaso, the group said it recognised what it described as the demands and responsibilities associated with public service.

The organisation also reaffirmed its commitment to justice, accountability, transparency, equity and national development, adding that it would support democratic and lawful efforts aimed at advancing those objectives.
