The Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Minister of Finance, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, Former Governors of Edo State, Adams Oshomole, Ogun State Ibikunle Amosun, among other dignitaries, yesterday, scored Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigerian, ICAN for its role in producing professionals that have contributed to the development of the Nigerian economy.
Also, the newly elected 62nd President of the institute, Queensley Seghosime, said that the relevance of the profession must be measured by the values it creates.
They all spoke at the Investiture of the 62nd President of ICAN held at ICAN Head Office in Lagos.
In her acceptance speech, Seghosime outlined nine pillars on which her agenda would be driven in the next one year.
She said these pillars are a commitment that shows that every thriving economy is built on confidence, accountability and integrity.
She said: “As Chartered Accountants, we sit at the intersection of business and governance. We stand between resources and responsibility. We transform information into insight, compliance into confidence and accountability into public trust.
“Our relevance must never be measured only by the number of members we produce, but by the value we create, the confidence we inspire, and the impact we make.”
Meanwhile, Dangote who was represented by the Executive Director, Dangote Group, Fatima Dangote, said: “ICAN remains one of the nation’s most respected professional institutions and a shining example of integrity, discipline, and excellence. For decades, ICAN has played a critical role in strengthening accountability, promoting ethical standards, and producing professionals who continue to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic growth and institutional development.
“At Dangote Group, we have continued to witness firsthand the immense value of professionalism and competence that ICAN donors bring to the corporate environment.”
On his part, Oyedele said: “ICAN has over six decades played a critical role in nation building by promoting professionalism, integrity, accountability, and excellence in financial reporting and governance.
“At a time when nations are seeking to strengthen public trust and improve institutional effectiveness, these values have never been more important.
“Our responsibilities today are beyond knowledge. We are custodians of trust. We have ensured that resources are managed responsibly, decisions are informed by evidence, and institutions remain accountable to the people they serve.
“Today, Nigeria is conducting important economic reforms aimed at building a more stable, competitive, and prosperous economy.
“ The success of these reforms will depend not only on the government’s actions, but also on the contribution of professionals who uphold the highest standard of ethics, transparency, and public service.
Oshomole said: “We have good employership for accounting professionals. But those who need competent accountants know that they have to approach ICAN.”
