Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the N1.245 trillion Gombe-Biu Highway dualisation project, describing it as a major infrastructure initiative for the North-East region.

Buratai expressed appreciation to the President for reviving the strategic highway, which was originally constructed in 1962. He said the project reflects the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and regional connectivity under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the former Army Chief, the dualisation of the 139-kilometre highway using rigid pavement technology is expected to improve transportation, facilitate trade and strengthen economic integration across the North-East.

He noted that the project could create new opportunities for businesses and local communities by enhancing access and reducing travel challenges along the corridor.

Buratai also commended the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, as well as the governors of Gombe and Borno states, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and Babagana Umara Zulum, for their support and collaboration in advancing the project.

He said the highway would have strategic value beyond economic development, noting that it could improve logistics and mobility across the region.

According to him, improved road infrastructure could support the movement of personnel, equipment and supplies, while contributing to broader efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in the North-East.

Buratai described the project as a significant investment in regional development, connectivity and economic growth and called on residents and stakeholders to support its successful implementation.

He expressed optimism that the project would deliver long-term benefits for communities along the corridor and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
