Goje commends Tinubu over N1.245trn Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri highway

Former Governor of Gombe State and Senator representing Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje, has commended President Bola Tinubu for the approval and flag-off of the N1.245 trillion Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri highway project, describing it as a major infrastructure boost for the North-East region.

The Federal Government on Thursday officially flagged off the project in Gombe. The highway will be dualised using rigid pavement technology and extended to Maiduguri, Yola and Jalingo, creating a strategic road link across the six states of the North-East.

Goje said the project reflects long-standing demands for improved road connectivity in the region and would significantly enhance economic activities, trade and mobility across the affected states.

He noted that he had consistently advocated for the construction of a major highway network linking North-East states, adding that the commencement of the project demonstrates responsiveness to the needs of the people.

According to him, the presence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, at the flag-off ceremony underscores the importance the Federal Government attaches to the project.

“I have repeatedly called for the construction of a major highway linking states in the North-East. When I heard that the Minister of Works was in Gombe to flag off this project, I felt it was necessary to commend the Federal Government,” he said.

Goje described President Tinubu as a listening leader who responds to the yearnings and aspirations of citizens through strategic infrastructure delivery.

He also referenced the mobilisation of contractors for the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe road project, saying it further shows that the administration is committed to translating promises into action.

The senator urged residents of Gombe State and the wider North-East region to support the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the government has demonstrated clear commitment to regional development through key infrastructure projects.

“If somebody does good to you, you should be very appreciative. The President has done well for us with this highway construction, so we should acknowledge him and his party,” he said.

Goje recalled that the Gombe-Biu road had suffered decades of neglect and failed rehabilitation attempts by previous administrations, expressing optimism that the new project would bring lasting relief to road users and stimulate economic growth across the region.
