Seek ye first the kingdom of God

Seek ye first the kingdom of God

Text: Matthew 6:33 (KJV) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

By Lazarus Muoka

One of the greatest tragedies in this world today is that everything in this world is being lost to sin and eternity. Many people spend their entire time pursuing money, fame, comfort, pleasure, and earthly success, yet they neglect the most important matter of all — their relationship with God. The world is filled with many who are not thinking about eternity or the spiritual consequences of their actions. But God has made it clear that unless a person seeks first the kingdom of God, all the things of this life will not matter.

The kingdom of God is the dominion of God over the lives of men. To seek the kingdom means to surrender your life to God, to live according to His will. It means placing God above every other desire, ambition, relationship, or possession.

Sadly, many people seek everything else before seeking God. Some have invested their entire lives chasing temporary things — wealth, fame, success — but these things cannot save the soul.

Jesus made it clear that the kingdom of God must be our first priority. In Matthew 6:33, He said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” This means that when we put God first, He will take care of our needs.

The spiritual strength of a believer cannot exceed his prayer life as a prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian

Prayer is the communication between man and God. Through prayer, we align our hearts with God’s will, we receive strength, guidance, and direction. Without prayer, a Christian will be spiritually weak and vulnerable to temptation.

A prayerless Christian is like a soldier without weapons, exposed to the enemy. Prayer gives us the power to overcome sin, to resist temptation, and to live a victorious life in Christ.

The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing.” This means that prayer should not be an occasional activity, but a continual lifestyle.

Many people today celebrate worldly success but neglect their spiritual growth. They spend hours chasing money, fame, and comfort, but give little or no time to prayer, the Word of God, and fellowship with other believers.

The danger of this is that a person may gain the whole world and lose his soul. Jesus asked in Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

The world today is filled with distractions — social media, entertainment, and the pursuit of pleasure — but these things cannot satisfy the soul. Only God can fill the emptiness in the heart of man.

Dear reader, it is time to refocus your priorities. Seek first the kingdom of God. Make God the center of your life. Develop a consistent prayer life. Study the Word of God. Live a life of righteousness.

Remember, everything in this world is temporary, but eternity is forever. Choose to invest your life in what truly matters — your relationship with God.

May God help us to seek Him first, above all else. Amen.
