The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has charged the President of the Yoruba Council Worldwide, Mr. Hassan Oladotun, to prioritise the preservation and promotion of Yoruba culture and heritage following his installation as a traditional chief in Ile-Ife.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, on Sunday, the monarch urged the new Sooko Agoriesin of Ife to use his position to strengthen peace, promote Yoruba cultural values, and support community development initiatives.

The Ooni described Oladotun as an ambassador of the Yoruba race, noting that his contributions to cultural advocacy, youth mobilisation, and national development had already gained recognition within and outside Nigeria.

“This is the time to do more and ensure the preservation of cultural heritage globally,” the monarch said.

Speaking after his installation, Oladotun expressed appreciation for the honour, pledging to continue promoting peace, cultural preservation, youth empowerment, and humanitarian activities aimed at improving societal wellbeing.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Ooni and the throne of Oduduwa, describing the title as a call to greater responsibility.

“The significance of Sooko is enormous. A Sooko serves as a lieutenant to the Ooni. Historically, every Sooko is regarded as a potential Ooni, although the supreme authority remains with the Oonirisa,” he said.

Oladotun added that his focus would be on preserving the legacy of Yoruba forebears, who were known for service, courage, generosity, and community development.

The ceremony attracted traditional chiefs, palace officials, cultural enthusiasts, members of the Yoruba Council Worldwide, and dignitaries from across the country.
