NDC picks Ibrahim Kashim as governorship candidate for Bauchi 2027 poll

BAUCHI — Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections in Bauchi State.

The affirmation was announced on Friday, May 20, 2026, by Paul Daniel, Chairman of the party’s Governorship Primary Electoral Committee in the state.

Daniel said the consensus arrangement reflected unity and maturity within the party, noting that members demonstrated cooperation throughout the selection process.

He explained that Kashim, who recently left the Social Democratic Party (SDP) following internal fragmentation at the national level, purchased the NDC expression of interest and nomination forms before being endorsed through a consensus process by both state and national leadership of the party.

According to him, the decision was taken to strengthen internal cohesion and position the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reacting to his emergence, Kashim expressed appreciation to the party leadership and supporters across the state, describing the mandate as a collective victory for civil servants, traders, youths and women.

“This mandate is not a victory for me alone; it is a victory for civil servants, market traders, hard-working farmers, women and the vibrant youth across all 21 local government areas who have consistently demanded a new direction for our beloved state,” he said.

Kashim said his vision is to build a united, prosperous and inclusive Bauchi State driven by people-oriented governance.

He noted that while successive administrations had made efforts in infrastructure development, more attention was needed to ensure that investments translate into sustainable economic growth and local value retention.

According to him, Bauchi State possesses vast human resources that can be better harnessed through visionary leadership and inclusive policies.

He called on party members and residents to rally behind the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections, urging support for what he described as a message of hope, competence and development-focused leadership.
