Commercial shipping activities remained vibrant across Lagos ports on Wednesday as vessels laden with petroleum products, food items and industrial raw materials berthed at the nation’s major seaports.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), in its latest shipping position report released in Lagos, disclosed that at least 16 vessels had arrived at the Apapa, Tin Can Island and Lekki deep seaports.

According to the authority, the vessels conveyed products such as petrol, fuel oil, naphtha, crude oil, bulk gas and urea for industrial and domestic use.

The NPA further stated that 34 additional vessels are expected at the ports between May 6 and May 18, a development expected to further increase cargo throughput within the Lagos port axis.

The incoming vessels are billed to discharge different consignments including petroleum products, food supplies and general cargoes.

Among the expected imports are buckwheat, containers, fresh fish, crude oil, bulk wheat, diesel, base oil, bitumen, gasoline and bulk soya.
The authority noted that port operations remained active with sustained inflow of dry and liquid cargoes across the facilities.

The report also revealed that 23 vessels are currently discharging cargoes at the ports, including containers, aviation fuel, petrol, crude oil, gypsum, trucks, wheat, urea and fresh fish.
Maritime stakeholders attributed the steady vessel traffic to sustained commercial activities and strong import demand through the country’s busiest seaports.
