Elders, youths and key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Omupo Constituency of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have urged the leadership to uphold and respect the outcome of the house of assembly primary conducted in the area.
The stakeholders who
commended the conduct of state House of Assembly primary, noted that the exercise led to the emergence of Lawal Olanrewaju David (LOD).
Spokesperson of the leaders and the stakeholders Comrade AbdulRoof Bello speaking with journalists at a press conference said “we the constituents, have exercised our fundamental rights to freedom of choice under democracy. It is expected that the sanctity of our rights should not only be upheld but respected by the leadership of our great party.”
Bello described outcome of the exercise as a reflection of fairness, unity and internal democracy within the party.
While calling on party members to remain peaceful and law-abiding, he urged supporters to ignore rumours of manipulation or falsification of results.
“We urge our members to disregard any rumour of falsification or manipulation. Please remain confident that the party leadership is composed of people of integrity who would not want the image of the party to be stained,” Bello said.
He also explained that Ora District had not produced a representative in the Kwara State House of Assembly since the return of democratic rule in 1999, unlike other districts in the constituency.
According to him,”It gladdens our hearts to note in the voting pattern that our long-standing mutual agreement on rotational principles of electing representatives was reflected in the results.
“For the records, all other districts and wards except Ora have had the privilege of producing a representative to the State Assembly since inception of the current democratic dispensation. That historic lacuna of unintended injustice was addressed by the result of the current exercise.”
He maintained that the people had freely expressed their choice and urged the leadership of the APC to respect the outcome of the exercise.
