Governor’s Forum crisis: Ogun students fault Arewa group over anti-Abiodun comment

By Adesina Wahab

Students under the aegis of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS National), have decried a comment credited to a Northern group calling for the impeachment of Governor Dapo Abiodun over the recent crisis in the All Progressives Congress Governors’ Forum.

NAOSS, in a statement signed by the National President, Aare Ajayi Oluwafemi, said the call by the Arewa group was not only reckless, inflammatory but politically sponsored.

“We describe this desperate outburst as nothing but a calculated attack against the personality, leadership and rising political profile of Governor Dapo Abiodun as Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum. It is shameful that individuals who clearly do not understand internal party mechanisms have chosen propaganda, blackmail and media theatrics over responsible political engagement.

“The governors within the APC are mature leaders who understand how to resolve their differences without noise, threats or political intimidation.  Issuing a ridiculous 48-hour ultimatum today and perhaps sponsoring protests at the APC National Headquarters tomorrow only exposes the desperation behind this entire script.  Nigerians are wiser. This is politics, and the public can already see through the agenda.

“If these so-called Arewa youths truly care about unity, democracy and the stability of the APC, they should rather caution their northern brothers already heating up the polity with 2027 ambitions against President Bola Tinubu.  Respect for the established rotation understanding should be upheld, and political conversations should remain issue-based instead of this cowardly campaign of insults and diversionary attacks.

“It is unfortunate that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s calm leadership, political maturity and  national relevance have now become a source of envy to some individuals hiding under ethnic and regional sentiments.  Ogun State students and youths across the nation will not take lightly any coordinated attempt to ridicule or destabilise the Governor of Ogun State through falsehood and sponsored propaganda.

“As National President of NAOSS National, I strongly warn those attempting to drag Ogun State into unnecessary political drama to desist immediately. The Ogun State House of Assembly must ignore these political charlatans whose only objective is to create confusion where none exists.  The lawmakers should remain focused on governance and development, not comedy skits packaged as political activism.

“Let it be clearly stated that  millions of progressive-minded Ogun State youths and students stand solidly with Governor Dapo Abiodun and believe he remains committed to the growth of the APC, national unity and the success of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“No amount of sponsored blackmail can diminish the contributions, influence and political value of Governor Dapo Abiodun within the ruling party and across Nigeria.

Oluwafemi urged all stakeholders to embrace responsible politics, reject divisive narratives and focus on strengthening democratic institutions rather than weaponising propaganda for selfish political interests.
