Abuja – Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Darma, has said the outcome of the Renewed Hope Housing Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Summit will form a critical part of the Ministry’s Strategic Plan to transform housing delivery and drive economic growth.
Darma stated this in a ministerial address at the second edition of the Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, on Tuesday.
The summit, themed “From Policy to Projects: Financing and Delivering Housing at Scale through PPPs,” brought together stakeholders from government institutions, private sector organisations, financial institutions, developers, and development partners to discuss sustainable housing solutions.
The Minister disclosed that the Ministry’s Strategic Plan would be officially unveiled by the end of May, following consultations with departments and agencies under the Ministry. According to him, the framework will provide clear direction for implementing housing policies and projects through effective collaboration with the private sector.
“Whatever plan we come up with, we will pursue diligently to ensure that it delivers meaningful results for Nigerians,” he said.
Highlighting ongoing achievements under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme, Darma revealed that housing units under construction in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State; Lambu, Kano State; and Karsana, Abuja, will be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu upon completion.
He added that beyond completing existing projects, the Ministry intends to scale up housing delivery nationwide through strong PPP models, innovative financing mechanisms, and inclusive participation.
“This will ensure that thousands of Nigerians soon become homeowners as these housing projects continue to expand nationwide,” he stated.
Darma noted that the projects have created jobs for thousands of artisans, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and other professionals while stimulating economic activities in host communities.
The Minister also announced that the Ministry, in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, is delivering 1,550 housing units for military personnel to improve the welfare and living conditions of Armed Forces members.
While acknowledging progress made, Darma stressed the need to complete all ongoing projects within reasonable timelines and to the highest standards.
He further said, “We remain fully committed to the timely completion and commissioning of all ongoing Renewed Hope Housing Projects across the country.”
The Minister urged financial institutions to develop flexible and accessible housing finance products that reflect the realities of Nigerians. He also encouraged state governments to provide land and create enabling environments for efficient housing development.
Darma reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda through strategic partnerships and policies that ensure access to decent, affordable, and sustainable housing.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary Dr. Shuaib Belgore commended the Minister for supporting the summit and ensuring its continuity despite the recent leadership transition. He explained that the theme “From Policy to Projects” will focus on execution challenges, including structuring bankable projects, mobilizing finance, securing land access, and building partnerships that deliver housing at scale.
In his welcome address, the convener of the summit, Dr. Olayemi Rotimi-Shodimu, noted that Nigeria’s housing sector has entered a decisive phase. He said, “In the last few years, government has undertaken bold policy, regulatory and institutional reforms to unlock private capital, strengthen land administration, and improve the enabling environment for large-scale housing delivery.”
According to him, the central objective of the summit is to bridge the gap between well-articulated policies and tangible, bankable housing projects on the ground.
A major highlight of the summit was the launch of the Renewed Hope Housing Magazine. The publication will serve as a strategic communication platform for documenting the Ministry’s progress, showcasing projects, highlighting investment opportunities, and strengthening stakeholder engagement.
