ABUJA – AS the African Wrestling Championships tagged ‘Egypt 2026’ comes to an end in Alexandria, Egypt, youths in Sagbama Local Government Area, SALGA, Bayelsa State, Monday, hailed the newly crowned African wrestling champion, Harrison Owvwipmogbohwo, for the amazing feat.
In a statement signed by the Director, Center for Youth Development, SALGA, Hon. Paul Ebikeseiye, described Owvwipmogbohwo from Ofoni Community in Sagbama LGA, as a wrestler with an exceptional talent and distinguished son of Sagbama Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, Harrison Onovwiomogbhwo delivered a remarkable and professional performance in the men’s freestyle category, defeating Egypt’s trusted wrestler, Mohamed Mostafa 10-4 to emerge the winner of the bout and Nigeria’s only gold in that division.
Ebikeseiye said: “It is with great pride and immense joy that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Harrison, a distinguished son of Sagbama Local Government Area, for his outstanding achievement in the field of wrestling.
“Harrison Owvwipmogbohwo, who hails from Ofoni Community in Sagbama LGA, has demonstrated exceptional talent, unwavering dedication, and remarkable energy in his sporting career.
“His recent triumph, emerging as the Africa Wrestling Champion in Egypt 2026 and securing a gold medal while representing Nigeria is a testament to his hard work, discipline, and resilience.
“This remarkable feat has not only brought honor to Sagbama Local Government Area but has also elevated the pride of Bayelsa State and Nigeria at large.
“His success stands as an inspiration to youths across our communities, reaffirming that determination and commitment can lead to global recognition.
