The Egbema Youth Council (EYC) Worldwide, has strongly rejected the outcome of the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) screening exercise in Delta State, describing the disqualification of some aspirants particularly the Ijaws from Warri North Local Government Area, as unfair, politically motivated, and unacceptable.
In a press statement issued on Thursday in Warri, the Council expressed concern over what it described as a deliberate attempt to suppress credible grassroots aspirants who have remained loyal to the APC and contributed immensely to the growth of the party in Warri North and Delta State at large.
The statement was signed by Comr. Michael Temeweikuro Desmond, Vice President; Engr. Gift Erin-Ebimi, Secretary General and Comr. Ugure Famous, P.R.O.
” The screening exercise failed to reflect the principles of fairness, equity, and internal democracy expected of a ruling political party”
The youth body maintained that democracy can only thrive when all qualified aspirants are allowed to participate freely without manipulation or political intimidation”
“The Egbema Youth Council (EYC) rejects in strong terms the outcome of the APC screening exercise that led to the disqualification of credible Ijaw/Izon aspirants from Warri North LGA. The process appears selective, unjust, and capable of creating unnecessary political tension within the party,”
The Council noted that many party supporters and stakeholders across Egbema Kingdom have expressed disappointment over the development, insisting that the APC leadership must urgently review the exercise in order to restore confidence among loyal party members.
It warned that any attempt to sideline popular grassroots aspirants through controversial screening procedures could weaken the unity and electoral strength of the APC in Warri North ahead of future elections.
The EYC further appealed to the national and Delta State leadership of the APC to immediately intervene and ensure justice is done to all affected aspirants.
” The peace and stability of the party can only be sustained when all stakeholders are treated fairly and given equal political opportunities”
It urged APC leaders to avoid actions capable of discouraging young people who are gradually developing interest in active political participation within the party structure.
They called on party supporters and youths to remain calm and law-abiding.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, fairness, and the political advancement of Egbema Kingdom and Warri North in general.
