A prominent Igbo politician and business mogul, Chief Emeka Agba has expressed concerns towards what he calls a misconception and distortion of Igbo socioeconomic reality.
Chief Agba who initially aspired for presidential position in the upcoming 2027 election, but withdrew from the race, said some issues concerning infrastructural face-lift in Igboland has been misrepresented while appealing to the voices concerned to clarify if Igboland has actually benefited from the current administration as claimed.
Chief Agba in a release to the media, made his views known, highlighting statement credited to the honourable Minister of works that Igboland has benefited immensely from this administration, alleging existence of infrastructure deficit on the region.
He stated: “I make this statement not out of bias, but from a place of genuine concern regarding recent remarks credited to the Honourable Minister of Works, concerning the President, Igboland, and political support within the South-East.
“The memory of the Nigerian civil war remains one of the most painful chapters in our collective history. Millions of lives were lost, families destroyed, and generations permanently affected. Therefore, references connected to that era must be approached with sensitivity because many families continue to live with the consequences of that tragedy.
“Across Igboland today, many citizens continue to express concerns about infrastructure deficits, insecurity, economic exclusion, political misrepresentation, and what they perceive as unequal treatment within the federation. Whether one agrees with these concerns or not, they remain genuine feelings held by many citizens.
“As leaders from the region occupying positions of national responsibility, our duty should be to unite people, reassure them, and advocate for fairness rather than create impressions that development or federal projects are dependent upon political loyalty or voting patterns.
“The people of the South-East deserve roads, infrastructure, security, and development not as political rewards but as constitutional entitlements owed to every Nigerian citizen.
“I therefore respectfully call on you to provide clarification concerning your recent remarks and, where necessary, offer reassurance to those who genuinely feel hurt or offended.
“This is not a call for division. It is a call for dignity, responsible leadership, and mutual respect,” Agba stated.
Chief Agba stressed that history would be witness to leaders who used their positions to defend the interests, dignity, and future of their people.
