Onoh dismisses allegations of external interference in Enugu politics

ABUJA — A former South-East spokesman to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Josef Onoh, has dismissed reports alleging external political interference in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, describing the claims as unfounded.

Onoh, who is also Chairman of the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, was reacting to reports suggesting a possible alliance involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, in relation to the political future of Chief Uche Nnaji in Enugu State.

In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, Onoh said the reports did not reflect the realities of Enugu’s political process, emphasizing that leadership decisions in the state rest with its people.

“Enugu State’s political direction will be determined by its residents and electorate,” he said.

He expressed confidence in the administration of Peter Mbah, noting that governance and performance would remain key factors in future political decisions.

Onoh also called for a focus on unity and collaboration among stakeholders, stressing the importance of maintaining stability and prioritising development in the state.

Commenting on broader political participation, he encouraged constructive engagement among political actors, including Chief Uche Nnaji, toward the continued progress of Enugu State.

He further urged political stakeholders across the region to respect due process and democratic principles, adding that cooperation remains essential for sustainable development.

Onoh reaffirmed his belief in the capacity of Enugu’s electorate to make informed decisions, maintaining that the state’s political future should be shaped through inclusive and lawful democratic processes.
