Official Dezny secures AMVCA 2026 recognition

By Ayo Onikoyi
If you have spent any time on social media over the past few years, then you already know the name Official Dezny. You have seen the videos, shared them with friends, laughed, and sometimes paused because they felt a little too real.

Now, that same creator, born Destiny Ogie Osarewinda, is getting major industry attention with a nomination for Best Digital Content Creator at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2026, and people are not just noticing, they are paying attention differently.

Before any of this recognition, Dezny was already putting in the work. Quietly, consistently, and without noise. Over time, that dedication has built him an audience of over 2 million followers across social media, people who did not just stumble on his content but stayed because they connected with it.

Since around 2015, he has been fully hands-on with his craft, writing, shooting, and editing his own projects. There was no sudden breakout moment, just steady growth and a clear commitment to getting better with every piece of content he put out.

The project that brought him into this current spotlight, Marriage List, is a strong reflection of how seriously he takes his work. This was not rushed content made for quick engagement. Planning alone took over a month, with the entire story carefully written before production even started.

Even more telling is the level of effort he put into getting the story right. Although he is not Igbo, he did not cut corners. He took time to research, ask questions, and truly understand the culture before telling the story. From learning about the Umu’Ada to studying traditional beads and cultural details, everything was approached with intention and respect.

That is what makes his work stand out. It does not feel forced or surface-level. It feels lived, thought-through, and honest.

And when you look back, it makes sense.

From church stages to school performances, Dezny has always been drawn to storytelling. In secondary school, he created YEC TV, a platform where young creatives could express themselves through acting, music, and dance. While others eventually moved on, he stayed with it and kept building, slowly shaping the path he is now on.

By the time he started uploading videos on YouTube, he already had years of experience behind him. He was not figuring it out, he was refining it.

His journey also goes beyond film. With a background that includes military school training and a deep connection to music, he brings a different kind of discipline and creativity into his work. He plays instruments, understands rhythm, and has spent time in choirs, all of which now reflect in how he tells stories and builds emotion into his scenes.

What is happening now with his nomination is bigger than just one moment. It is part of a wider shift. Digital creators are no longer just making content for timelines. They are telling stories that carry weight, stories that can stand side by side with traditional filmmaking.

Dezny’s journey captures that shift perfectly. Someone who started with just a phone, no gatekeepers, no backing, just passion and consistency, is now standing on one of the biggest stages in African entertainment, not as an outsider, but as someone who truly belongs there.
