The Lions Clubs International, District 404B-4, has reiterated its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through expanded humanitarian interventions across Nigeria.
The District Governor, Lion Adebowale Afolayan, made this known during the charter presentation and investiture of the Abeokuta Premium Lions Club held in Abeokuta, where he pledged intensified efforts in health and community development initiatives aimed at complementing government programmes.
Afolayan described the continuous expansion of Lions Clubs as a deliberate strategy to reach underserved populations and deliver people-oriented services.
Highlighting some of the organisation’s achievements, he disclosed that the district had recorded notable milestones in the health sector, including the construction of a 20-room accommodation facility at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, as well as the establishment of a 15-point dialysis centre at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
“Our work is guided by a simple but powerful mission: service to humanity. We are committed to making measurable impact in Nigeria, and we invite well-meaning individuals to partner with us to touch more lives.”
He stressed that sustainable humanitarian development requires collective responsibility, noting that even small contributions could yield lasting impact.
The District Governor further expressed confidence that the newly chartered Abeokuta Premium Lions Club would boost the organisation’s capacity to respond effectively to pressing community needs, particularly in the areas of healthcare, youth development and social welfare.
Charging the club’s leadership, Afolayan urged the new president to discharge his duties with dedication and a strong sense of purpose.
“You and your charter team carry great promise, and I urge you to lead with compassion, vision, and an unwavering commitment to service,” he said.
“As a district, we are building a future that is brighter, bolder, and full of possibilities. Together, we are shaping values, ideas, and people into agents of positive change. Lead with purpose, work in unity with your team, and let service remain at the heart of all you do,” he added.
In his acceptance speech, the Charter President of the Abeokuta Premium Lions Club, Lion Shafih Amusa, reaffirmed the club’s readiness to deepen collaboration with public institutions in advancing community development.
“Service to humanity remains the heartbeat of Lions Clubs International,” Amusa said. “With a clear agenda and structured programmes, we are poised to support government initiatives and drive sustainable community development.”
He called for stronger synergy between government and humanitarian organisations, noting that meaningful progress could only be achieved through collective effort.
Amusa also urged government at all levels to prioritise the welfare of citizens by tackling unemployment, ensuring prompt payment of pensions, and strengthening social safety nets.
“When we work together, we can build a safer, more inclusive society,” he said. “That is the path to a brighter Nigeria.”
