Governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Dr. Mathias Byuan, has pledged to mobilise no fewer than two million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Byuan made the declaration weekend in Makurdi during the inauguration of local chapters of the Ahmed Bola Tinubu (ABT) Support Group, where he formally launched his “Bucket Revolution” campaign in support of Tinubu’s re-election.

He said the President deserved a second term, citing what he described as impactful policies and developmental projects that have benefited both Benue State and the nation.

According to him, “President Tinubu has demonstrated genuine commitment to the development of Benue through key projects such as the Buruku Bridge, the Wurukum overhead bridge, and the dualisation of the Makurdi-Enugu expressway. He also ensured that Benue indigenes are appointed into strategic national positions.”

Byuan stressed that the people of the state must reciprocate the President’s goodwill with massive electoral support. “We will deliver not less than two million votes for President Tinubu in 2027. Benue holds a special place in his heart, and we must stand by him,” he said.

The former Executive Director of Housing, Finance and Accounts at the Federal Housing Authority, Abuja, revealed that he resigned his position to contest the governorship election in response to the yearnings of the people.

“I am a beneficiary of President Tinubu’s goodwill to Benue people, but I chose to step down and answer the call of my people who are in dire need of purposeful leadership,” he stated.

He, however, decried what he described as the underperformance of the current administration in the state, noting that despite increased allocations, there is little evidence of completed projects, while insecurity continues to pose serious challenges.

Byuan said his ambition is driven by a mission to reposition the state for growth and prosperity. “My goal is to rescue Benue from poor leadership, prioritise security, improve livelihoods, and build a thriving commercial economy beyond civil service dependence,” he added.

He further outlined plans to establish a “stomach infrastructure” ministry aimed at enhancing citizens’ welfare, while also promising inclusive governance.

In his remarks, the APC State Chairman, Austin Agada, represented by the Deputy State Chairman, Benedict Aluga, commended Byuan’s efforts in fostering unity within the party and galvanising grassroots support.

Also speaking, Ambassador Philip Eche expressed the support of Benu Zone C, saying, “We are confident in Dr. Byuan’s leadership capacity and commitment to repositioning Benue State.”

The Director-General of the ABT Support Group, Dr. Kaaulu Akerkpev, noted that the state stands to regain lost ground through Byuan’s candidature, while APC stalwart, Chief Jime Akaaka, described him as “a credible solution to the challenges facing Benue” and urged the people to embrace what he termed the “Benue Rescue Mission.”

The event attracted party stakeholders and supporters from across the state.
