ISIS models Africa drives global fashion visibility with strong African presence in top capitals

By Esther Onyegbula

ISIS Models Africa has reinforced its position as a leading force in the global fashion industry, with its models maintaining a strong presence across major international fashion capitals, including Milan, New York, Paris and London.

The agency’s sustained global visibility comes amid increasing calls for diversity and inclusion in fashion, with African models gaining prominence on some of the world’s most competitive runways and editorial platforms.

Founded in 2008 by Nigerian fashion entrepreneur, Joan Okorodudu, ISIS Models Africa has grown from a local talent management outfit into an internationally recognised institution. Through strategic partnerships with global agencies such as Select Model Management and collaborations with Studio 24, the agency has created structured pathways for African models to access global opportunities.

Speaking on the agency’s impact, Okorodudu said its vision has consistently focused on elevating African talent to compete at the highest levels of the global fashion industry.

She said: “From the very beginning, our mission has been to ensure that African models are not just seen, but respected and celebrated on the global stage.”

Industry observers note that ISIS Models Africa is among agencies with one of the highest numbers of working Black models internationally, reflecting a deliberate effort to expand representation and redefine global beauty standards.

At major fashion weeks in Milan and New York, models from the agency have featured prominently in both haute couture and ready-to-wear shows, further consolidating Africa’s growing influence in the global fashion ecosystem.

Okorodudu attributed the agency’s success to a strong focus on training, discipline and international exposure, noting that talents are equipped not just for short-term appearances but for sustainable careers.

Beyond runway appearances, the agency’s models have also secured placements in leading global publications, including Vogue, as well as major advertising campaigns and luxury brand endorsements.

A key driver of its talent pipeline is its flagship initiative, Africa’s Next Super Model, which has become one of the continent’s largest model search platforms. The initiative, run in partnership with Select Model Management under its Chief Executive Officer, Matteo Puglisi, continues to connect emerging African talents to global markets.

The agency’s founder has also gained international recognition for her contributions. In 2024, Okorodudu received a Lifetime Presidential Award under Joe Biden, in recognition of her efforts in promoting African fashion, culture and youth empowerment.

Through its philanthropic arm, Runways to Freedom Foundation, and partnerships with organisations such as Design Essentials, the agency has expanded opportunities for young talents, including those from underserved communities and refugee backgrounds.

In addition, Okorodudu played a role in raising funds for Vogue Italia’s talent initiatives in Africa, further strengthening the continent’s integration into the global fashion value chain.

Despite personal challenges, including the loss of her husband, Omatsola Terry Okorodudu, the ISIS Models Africa founder has continued to lead the agency’s expansion while overseeing other business interests.
Stakeholders say the agency’s consistent global presence underscores a broader shift in the fashion industry, where African models are increasingly moving from the margins to the mainstream.
As global fashion continues to evolve, ISIS Models Africa’s sustained participation in major fashion events and its investment in talent development position it as a key driver in shaping the future of the industry.

Okorodudu added that the agency remains committed to pushing boundaries and ensuring African models secure a permanent place at the top tier of global fashion.
