…hails Tinubu’s performance

Former Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, Chief Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, has confirmed his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives in the forthcoming elections.

In an interview with select journalists, Egunjobi—who currently serves as Renewed Hope Ambassador for Agege Federal Constituency under President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign—praised the Tinubu administration’s achievements across education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.

He highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a game-changer, saying it has prevented indigent students from dropping out of public tertiary institutions by covering tuition fees. Egunjobi also commended the administration’s renewed focus on technical and vocational education, noting that students in federal technical colleges and vocational centres now receive free education plus a monthly stipend of N45,000.

Other initiatives he spotlighted include the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund offering non-interest loans to staff, the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) providing uncollateralised loans to citizens, and major infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Road.

On the political landscape, Egunjobi asserted that opposition parties have been significantly weakened by defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He claimed the PDP has lost most of its governors elected in 2023, while Labour Party, ADC, and NNPP face internal crises and declining relevance.

“Given all the compelling evidence that President Tinubu has done well and the prevailing absence of opposition parties, his reelection in 2027 is assured,” Egunjobi said.

Addressing recent APC congress violence in Ondo State, where two members were killed, he downplayed reports of serious internal crisis, saying, “There’s no crisis of note in APC. Like they say, ‘there’s no perfect relationship.’”

On his own ambition, Egunjobi confirmed long-standing interest in the Agege Federal Constituency seat currently held by Dr. Wale Ahmed. He revealed he had previously declared interest while serving as council chairman but stepped down at the request of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Hon. Mudasiru Obasa, whom he described as the undisputed leader in Agege with an unmatched record of development.

“Now I’m in the race again, and I hope to get Obasa’s blessing,” Egunjobi stated.

The declaration positions Egunjobi as a strong contender in what could become a keenly watched contest in the Lagos constituency.
