Ajadi visits Ibadan Chief Imam, seeks blessings ahead of 2027 governorship race

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Grand Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdul Ganiy Abubakir Agbotomokekere, at his residence in Oja’ba, Ibadan. Discussions during the visit focused on leadership, integrity, and the role of prayers in governance.

Ajadi described the Chief Imam as a spiritual pillar in Oyo State and said the visit was to seek prayers and guidance as he continues consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

“I have come to seek your prayers and spiritual blessings because of your important role in promoting peace, unity and moral guidance in our society,” Ajadi said. He added that his political ambition is rooted in service to the people, emphasising leadership driven by compassion, fairness, and accountability.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Ajadi assured the people of Oyo State that internal tensions within the PDP have been managed, expressing optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections.

In his response, Sheikh Agbotomokekere advised Ajadi to remain focused on good governance principles and warned against corruption, noting that leadership with integrity and fear of God is essential to delivering the dividends of democracy.

The Chief Imam also reminded the aspirant that human ambition is fulfilled only with divine approval and offered prayers for success and guidance. Using a football analogy, he urged Ajadi to remain cautious of distractions and misleading influences in politics.

Sheikh Agbotomokekere, the 18th Chief Imam of Ibadanland, is widely respected in South-Western Nigeria for his scholarship and advocacy for peaceful coexistence among religious and political groups.

Observers say the visit is part of Ajadi’s ongoing consultations with key stakeholders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders as political activities gain momentum in Oyo State ahead of the next electoral cycle.
