Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, has donated 100 mattresses and other materials to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Thursday, reinforcing the company’s expanding corporate social responsibility drive aimed at supporting Nigeria’s public health sector.
The donation, delivered at the hospital’s premises in Lagos, forms part of Vitafoam’s broader efforts to invest in community welfare and strengthen institutions that provide critical services to millions of Nigerians.
Vitafoam’s Group Managing Director, Taiwo Adeniyi, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to giving back to society. He noted that Vitafoam plans further interventions in 2026, including medical equipment support, school construction, and partnerships with hospitals to upgrade facilities.
“For 2026, Vitafoam Nigeria is donating the mattresses, among other items, to show that we care. We know that a facility of this nature will put them to use immediately, and they will be beneficial to Nigerians,” Adeniyi said. He added that the company is targeting more CSR projects in 2026, including donating medical equipment, building schools, and partnering with hospitals to revamp facilities.
“If we leave everything in the hands of the government, we may not achieve the needed development the country deserves,” he stated.
The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Professor Adetokunbo Fabamwo, on behalf of the hospital’s management, staff, and patients, expressed appreciation to Vitafoam Nigeria for the donation. According to him, the gesture represents the company’s first major direct CSR intervention at LASUTH.
“We are aware of the company’s legendary 60-year ‘First Baby’ programme at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital. We commend their recent refurbishment of laboratories at Unilag and their support for LUTH’s College of Nursing. These are not just donations; they are statements of corporate citizenship. Today, LASUTH joins that list, and we do not take it lightly,” Professor Fabamwo said.
He noted that LASUTH is more than a hospital, describing it as a centre of excellence, a referral hub, and often the last hope for critically ill patients across Lagos and beyond. He stressed that patient dignity is shaped by the quality of care and the environment provided.
“Every day, our wards operate at high capacity. We see pain, we see recovery, and we see the quiet dignity of patients who endure long stays in our facilities. That dignity is shaped by the environment we provide. A clean, comfortable bed is not a luxury — it is part of the therapy. It aids recovery. It restores hope. It tells a patient: you matter. Today, Vitafoam has chosen to invest in that dignity,” he said.
Professor Fabamwo disclosed that the mattresses would be deployed immediately to high-occupancy wards where the need is greatest, noting that they meet the highest standards of hygiene, durability, and patient comfort.
“They replace units that have served their time and now give way to better, safer care. This is not just an upgrade of equipment; it is an upgrade of the patient experience,” he said. He, however, called on other corporate organisations to support and partner with LASUTH through the provision of hospital equipment and other resources.
“Vitafoam Nigeria has led the way. LASUTH is ready to partner. Whether through medical equipment, infrastructure, staff welfare, or patient support, we are open,” he added.
