The Department of Paediatrics in conjunction with management of Federal Medical Centre FMC Asaba have Eulogized late Prof. Angela Anene Okolo on her service to Humanity while on earth.

The Ag Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre FMC Asaba Dr Omo Ekeneam said late Prof Angela Anene Okolo was an exceptional clinician, teacher, mentor and pioneer in neonatology.

He revealed that during her time in service, her contributions significantly advanced newborn care within the institution and across Nigeria and her passion for improving neonatal were countless in the healthcare professionals.

He said ” Prof Okolo had championed the accreditation of neonatal unit in FMC, support the training of postgraduate doctors in Paediatrics and a passionate lover and defender of children “.

Also speaking, the head of Paediatrics in FMC, Asaba Dr Efe Omoyibo described Prof Okolo as a renowned neonatology who stood at the intersection of science and humanity.

He further explained that Prof Okolo advanced clinical practices, mentored generations of physicians and nurses who now carry her teaching into hospitals and communities across the nation.Noting that her integrity, diligence, humility and empathy remain the benchmarks for their professional conduct.

In a goodwill message, the Head of Service Delta State Dr Mininim Oseji said she learnt a lot from Prof Okolo, describing her as a brain and career builder in medical profession.

Also speaking on behalf of the family, Dr Innocent Okolo, a consultant Neonatologist, Neonatal Subspecialty.

said his mother passion in medical profession cannot be measured, adding that her legacy for the improvement of healthcare to humanity remains in the heart of medical doctors and nurses across Nigeria.

Other goodwill messages were read by President, Pediatrics Association of Nigeria Prof Petronila Tabansi and President Nigeria Society of Neonatal Medicine Prof Iretiola Fajuolu who described Prof Angela Anene Okolo as a woman with integrity, diligence, humility and care for children.

The highpoint of the event was the delivering of legacy lecture in the honour of Prof Angela Anene Okolo by Professor Fidelis Olisamedua Njokanma, a professor of Paediatrics and consultant Paediatrician.
