2027: Gov. Makinde, Turaki, Ajadi unveil new secretariat

Ibadan, Oyo State — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State on Tuesday officially unveiled its newly constructed state secretariat in Ibadan, highlighting efforts to strengthen party structures and internal cohesion ahead of future elections.

The commissioning ceremony, held at Molete–Oke Ado Road, was attended by Governor Seyi Makinde, leading governorship aspirant Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), state executives, elders, and party members from across the state.

The secretariat, donated by Governor Makinde, was described by party leaders as a significant investment in the PDP’s organisational capacity. Speaking to journalists, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo called the event “a symbolic rebirth” for the party in Oyo State.

“This secretariat represents more than bricks and mortar. It is a statement of commitment to party unity, internal democracy, and grassroots mobilisation,” Ajadi said, adding that a strong party structure supports good governance and public trust.

Governor Makinde said the party had undergone a repositioning in the state, with a renewed focus on discipline, loyalty, and collective responsibility. He announced that the secretariat would be named after the late Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, a former chairman of the Oyo State PDP, in recognition of his contributions to the party.

“The building symbolises a new chapter for our party in Oyo State,” the governor said. “It is about unity, discipline, and sustaining the confidence the people of Oyo State have placed in us.”

Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, PDP National Chairman, praised the Oyo State chapter for its organisation and commitment to party ideals. He noted that strong state chapters are essential to a vibrant national party and urged members to maintain unity as the PDP continues to reposition itself.

Party leaders and attendees described the new secretariat as a platform for reconciliation, strategic planning, and grassroots engagement, expressing optimism that it would further strengthen the party’s organisational capacity in the state.

The event concluded with supporters hailing the development as a sign of the PDP’s efforts to consolidate structures and prepare for future electoral contests.
