ABUJA — Former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Hajia Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has urged Nigerians to prioritise national cohesion, unity and dialogue as the country enters the year 2026.

In a New Year’s Eve statement, Aliyu called on citizens to remain steadfast despite the economic and social challenges experienced in the outgoing year, noting that the resilience of Nigerians remains the nation’s greatest strength as it navigates its path toward stability and growth.

She praised the people of Kogi State, where she hails from, for their communal spirit and support for the current administration, expressing confidence that the state would realise its full potential under the present leadership.

“The new year is more than a turning of the calendar; it is a moment of renewal. It calls on us to recommit ourselves to peace, tolerance and national cohesion,” she said.

“Our diversity remains our greatest strength, and our destiny is one. Let us choose understanding over division, dialogue over discord, and the collective interest of our nation over narrow personal or sectional considerations.”

Aliyu urged Nigerians to support and align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, noting that the ongoing reforms, though demanding patience, are designed to build a more resilient economy, expand opportunities for women and youths, and ensure a more secure and prosperous nation.

She stressed that nation-building should be seen as a collective responsibility rather than the sole duty of those in government.

“As citizens, we are all stakeholders in the Nigerian project. Nation-building requires the commitment of every individual and community,” she said.

Reaffirming her personal dedication to public service, the former minister pledged continued involvement in grassroots development, promising to remain an advocate for inclusive growth that leaves no segment of society behind.

“As we journey through this new year, may our homes be filled with peace, our communities witness tangible progress, and may our hearts remain anchored in hope and confidence in the promise of Nigeria,” Aliyu added.
