Investigators of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, have received advanced training on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, mental health, and stress management, even as D’Bio Wellness & Selfcare Hub concluded a comprehensive three-day Training and Workshop under the Employee Assistance Programme , EAP.
The programme, held from January 14 to 16, 2026, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation, Abuja, was organised in collaboration with OMNICURA and aimed at strengthening staff capacity in self-care, mental wellbeing, occupational support, and resilience in the high-pressure environment of safety investigation and emergency response.
Declaring the training impactful, Director of Investigation, NSIB, Abdullahi Baba Babanya, praised the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., for prioritising staff welfare.
“The Employee Assistance Programme is a strategic investment in the wellbeing of our personnel. This training is not just about knowledge; it is about building resilience, improving performance, and ensuring that our investigators remain effective in the line of duty,” Babanya said.
He urged participants to take the lessons seriously, stressing that the skills acquired would translate directly into improved professionalism and productivity.
The workshop featured expert-led sessions on general health, mental wellbeing, and occupational support. Dr. Monica Hemben Eimunjeze, FPSN, FNAPharm, delivered an overview of General Health and Occupational Support for Emergency Response Personnel and facilitated sessions on Self-Care, Stress and You.
She emphasised the need for proactive health management, structured self-care practices, and strong institutional support systems for personnel working in high-risk environments.
Mental health-focused sessions were led by Dr. Olajumoke Koyejo, who spoke extensively on stress and mental health, understanding acute and post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD management, and relationship and stress management.
“Our goal is to help professionals recognise early warning signs, manage trauma exposure, and maintain healthy relationships both at work and at home,” Koyejo said.
On nutrition and stress resilience, Ms. Obianuju Chukwuemeka highlighted the role of proper diet in enhancing mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing, urging participants to adopt sustainable and healthy dietary habits.
Stress management techniques were further explored by clinical psychologist, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, who introduced practical coping strategies and relaxation methods participants could integrate into their daily routines.
The programme also featured two interactive panel sessions, during which participants shared real-life experiences and discussed a broad range of issues relating to stress, mental health, and occupational expectations. The sessions produced actionable recommendations aimed at strengthening the EAP framework within NSIB and promoting a more supportive work culture.
Participants described the training as timely and relevant, noting that it reinforced the importance of integrating health, mental wellbeing, nutrition, and coping strategies into professional life, especially for personnel entrusted with critical safety and investigation responsibilities.
D’Bio Wellness & Selfcare Hub, in collaboration with OMNICURA, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting organisations through structured wellness and self-care programmes that enhance resilience, productivity, and overall quality of life.
“This partnership reflects our belief that a healthy workforce is the foundation of effective service delivery,” the organisers said.
